If your fortune holds to the extent that to have a lawn with a good topsoil base, the toil and labor of beautifying your lawn is already done for you. 1. The best time to mow a lawn is when observation suggests that coolness and dryness exists. Linger until the damp dew of morning has left, and before the afternoon heat takes hold. 2. On the question of boundary division, a hedge has preferable qualities of separating boundaries compared to a fence. The provision for privacy is superior, keep pets and children in or out. The shelter it provides will attract birds, and privision is made for a setting that will enhance flowers and plants.

3. Your garden should be brought right up to you; paths and outside doors can have hyacinths planted near them. Their magnificent perfume will swamp the spring air to brighten every aspect of your garden.

4. Bring you garden to the things that don't belong in a garden, lamp posts and mail boxes being an example. Smother such mundane things with planted flowers to take advantage of flowers that go from the earliest to flower right up to the ones that flower last. You could have white snowdrops, purple and gold crocus, tulips of a variety of colors, and hyacinths colored blue. The base of the posts would benefit from the placement of stanes and rocks to make them look better.

5. The control of weeds may take place on the environs of your lawn by mowing often during spring. The effect that will be achieved is the suppression of the spread of dandelions by eliminating the yellow blossoms and preventing seed formation. Late spring and early summer is the time to mow high. This will allow grass blades to shade the ground, and the total suppression of crabgrass sprouting will be achieved.

Your lawn and garden is expected to be somewhere that your pride and your creation's beauty shines through. Money in quantities need not be spent on herbicides and fertilizers that cost a lot, or either chairs and tables, or statues, etc for the lawn. A little commonsense and thought will take you as far as you need to go to making your lawn and garden a space that you prefer.
