If your luck is such that to have a lawn with a good topsoil base, the toil and labor of beautifying your lawn can be dispensed with altogether. 1. The best time to mow a lawn is when observation suggests that coolness and dryness exists. Linger until the damp dew of morning has left, and prior to the warm build up that takes place prior to evening. Alternatively, late afternoon or early evening this should follow a water application when it was morning, which is a fine time as well.

2. A hedge is a much better boundary divider than the qualities provided by fencing. A more private provision is catered for, keeping little ones and family animals secure on either side. It is likely to attract birds due to the way it provides shelter for them, and provide a backdrop that will set off your flowers as well as your plants.

3. Your garden should be brought right up to you; paths and outside doors can have hyacinths planted near them. Their wonderful scent will overcome the air of early spring to brighten every aspect of your garden.

4. Add your garden to nongarden items, such as lampposts and mail boxes. Surround these items with flowers planted to take advantage of flowers that go from the earliest to flower right up to the ones that flower last. You may wish to see snowdrops, white in color, purple and gold crocus, blue hyacinths, and various colored tulips. Rocks and boulders should be placed at the base of the posts to provide added interest.

5. Simple, but effective weed control is an achievement that your lawn can experience by mowing often during spring. This will prevent dandelions spreading by eliminating the yellow blossoms and stopping seeds to form. Late spring and early summer is the time to mow high. The ground will be shaded by grass blades with this maneouvre, as well as crabgrass being prevented from performing a sprouting action.

Your lawn and garden is expected to be somewhere that your pride and your creation's beauty shines through. The expense of considerable sums is unecessary on herbicides and fertilizers that cost a lot, or either chairs and tables, or statues, etc for the lawn. Carefull thinking and a sensible attitude can go a long way to making your lawn and garden a space that you prefer.
